The Sacred Valley of the Incas was one of the most important territories of the Tahuantinsuyo. Thanks to its temperate climate, abundant water, and fertile soils, it became the main agricultural center of the empire, especially for ceremonial corn cultivation.

This complete tour allows you to understand the integral functioning of the valley: agricultural experimentation, salt production, military centers, urban planning, and textile traditions that survive to this day.

It is an intense and enriching experience, ideal for travelers who wish to visit in one single day the main archaeological complexes and traditional towns of the valley.

Itinerary

Hotel Pickup – Beginning of the Experience: Between 06:30 and 07:00 a.m. we begin pickup from hotels located in the historic center of Cusco.

During the journey the guide will explain:

  • The geography of the Sacred Valley.
  • The importance of the Vilcanota River as a spiritual axis.
  • The political structure of the Tahuantinsuyo.

We ascend toward the first stop of the day.

Chinchero – Textile Tradition and Colonial Heritage: Our first visit is Chinchero, located at 3,700 m.a.s.l.

Here we will visit a traditional textile center where local artisans explain in a live demonstration:

  • Wool washing process using natural roots.
  • Dyeing techniques with cochineal, plants, and minerals.
  • Symbolic meaning of Andean designs.

Additionally, Inca archaeological remains and the 17th-century colonial church built over ancient Inca palaces are visited, evidencing the cultural superposition.

Maras – Andean Colonial Town: We continue to Maras, where we make a panoramic stop.

The guide will explain:

  • Its importance during the colonial period.
  • The carved doorway architecture.
  • The administrative role of the town in the viceregal era.

Moray – Inca Agricultural Laboratory: We visit the archaeological complex of Moray.

This impressive system of circular terraces functioned as an agricultural experimental center.

Here you will understand:

  • The creation of microclimates at different levels.
  • Underground drainage systems.
  • Adaptation of crops to different ecological floors.

The descent toward the viewpoints allows observation of the geometric perfection of the design.

Maras Salt Mines – Ancestral Salt Production: We descend toward the famous Maras Salt Mines.

More than 3,000 active pools produce salt through natural evaporation since pre-Inca times.

During the visit the following is explained:

  • The artisanal process of distributing salty water.
  • The communal organization for exploitation.
  • The productive continuity until today.

It is one of the most photogenic landscapes in the valley.

Buffet Lunch in Urubamba: We head to Urubamba to enjoy a varied buffet lunch with Andean and international dishes.

Time to rest and regain energy.

Ollantaytambo – Monumental Fortress: Guided visit in Ollantaytambo.

This complex fulfilled military, religious, and agricultural functions.

During the visit we will learn about:

  • The Temple of the Sun with perfectly assembled megalithic blocks.
  • Defensive terraces.
  • Hydraulic channels still active.
  • History of Inca resistance against the Spanish.

Additionally, we will walk through part of the current town that maintains its original Inca urban layout.

Pisaq – Urban and Ceremonial Center: Finally we visit Pisaq, strategically located on the mountain.

The complex includes:

  • Extensive agricultural terraces.
  • Residential enclosures.
  • Ceremonial sectors.
  • Funerary structures on cliffs.

From its viewpoints you obtain a complete panoramic view of the valley.

Return to Cusco: Approximate arrival between 18:30 and 19:00 hrs to the historic center
